Mornings with Amanda Porter

By: Amanda Porter

There are some people that just vibrate at a higher frequency and feel like magic. Meet Amanda Porter. We asked Amanda, our friend, and major motivator and wellness inspiration, to take us on a journey through her morning rituals. We believe that setting yourself up for success in the morning can change your every day, which in turn, can change your life. Amanda is one of those people who lead by example. She creates and lives in the life of her dreams. She is a total bombshell on the outside and in. She lives the life she visualizes and we’re hoping that we (and you!) can take some actionable tips from her to vibrate at the same frequency…. Enjoy! – Juliana Pires Johnson

I love wellness, sleep and my morning routine. They are sacred to me. I’ve learned quickly in a fast-paced environment that you have to love and take care of yourself, make yourself your #1 priority before you can give to others and build an empire. I’m open to trying anything that will make me even 1% better. One of my goals in life, next to helping as many people as I can, is to become my highest/true self. That is my highest expression and purpose to make the most positive impact I can while I’m here.

Anyone close to me knows how sacred my morning routine has become. I’m always eager to share the things that have helped bring me closer to myself and created inner peace. I find when I’m centered and guided by the voice within me, I’m sharpest, quickest, most decisive and effective. I’m also able to be a better friend, mentor and student.

Sleep is VITAL to our health. People used to make fun of how much sleep I needed, until recently it seems its getting some proper light shined on just how important it is to our overall health (especially for women). I feel like lack of sleep, along with how “busy” we all are were badges, I hope that will soon be a thing of those past. It’s so important we take care of our mind, body and soul. Health is wealth!

I sleep 9 hours a night and schedule my day around sleep, my morning ritual and a workout (or 2). Winding down and bedtime become a priority when sleep becomes your best friend. I stay off all electronics (including the TV) at least an hour before bed. No phone or TV allowed in the bedroom (buy an alarm if needed- it’s always the first rationale I hear). I have chamomile tea each night and water by my bedside. I read a book in bed with candles lit on my nightstand. I’m currently reading “Meditations” by Marcus AurelIus.

7am wake up (I haven’t used an alarm in over 3 years, there are rare occasions when I travel that I set an alarm, but even then, depending on the time zone I plan meetings that day according to when I’ll wake up until I’m adjusted).

I immediately start to thank God for the day, pushing the rush of thoughts that tend to always want to start coming in (what I need to do, the things I forgot to do, etc.) It’s good to practice thinking of a list of what you’re grateful for right upon waking. Starting your thoughts positive right away so that it carries throughout the day. I also have an affirmation I repeat a lot in the morning and throughout the day “I expand in abundance, success and love every day and I inspire those around me to do the same.” I love rituals, so I light candles by my bed and burn either sage or palo santo. I write down 3 things I’m grateful for in my journal (in as much description as I can). I then mediate for 20 minutes in my bed (In the summer I run down to the beach for meditation). Afterwards I pray and journal a bit more, sometimes I have thoughts, visualization from meditating, or I’ll manifest and write out my day as if it’s already happened. Before or after meditation I drink a full liter of water, staying hydrated feels good and just makes sense to continue to flush your body and feel your best.

I make my bed every morning. I remember it being something early on in my career someone said “if you want to be successful, make your bed” I took it as equally discipline (which in life and business is a muscle you have to build) and it always stuck.

I then start a pot of hot water for fresh ginger and lemon water and make a celery juice with dandelion, ginger and lemon. I read aloud a page from “A Year of Miracles” by Marianne Williamson. After this I take a look at my phone and catch up on my schedule for the day, emails and text messages. I take Ellie, my golden retriever, on a 2 mile walk to get coffee or tea. Fresh air and sunshine wake me up! While out on our walk I catch up on calls and touch base with different teams and leaders I’m working with. Afterwards I do a yoga class or stretch sequence. Depending on my schedule I work out after this or in the afternoon.

The truth is we can come with a ton of reasons not to do something. But life really is full of choices and all of those choices come at a cost. I weigh my choices that will generate the best feeling. When I feel my best, I tend to make those around me feel their best, it’s contagious. Then people start to ask you …what’s your secret? It’s my morning routine
